My Fair Limbaugh...

One of the things the Limbaugh supporters who are commenting on the blog have mentioned is how Rush deals in the facts. Rush, himself talks about it all the time. To quote him, “I’m not makin’ this up folks.”

And yet, his supporters on this blog page are making assumptions (sometimes wildly) about what this show is and what it will be while knowing only it’s title. The title is not “Fuck You Rush Limbaugh,” or “Rush Limbaugh can kiss our Lefty Asses.” It’s simply “Rush Limbaugh: The Musical.” So, while you may think you know what it’s about…you don’t. I don’t…I haven’t even seen the whole script. How about we wait and see it before we judge it? Isn’t that what a journalist like Rush Limbaugh would do? Rush wouldn’t go off half-cocked and make accusations or assumptions before carefully compiling all the facts would he? Let’s be fair shall we?

And, as for being fair, here’s a bit of inside info. Comedy isn’t fair. Comedy has never been fair. Comedy is an outburst, a rage, a microscope…but it’s not fair. When you tell a joke about a Priest, do you immediately tell one about a Rabbi in order to be “fair.” No…you tell jokes because they are funny. Second City has made fun of Race, Gender, Politics, Religion, War, Peace, Sports, Sex and EVERY sitting President in the last 50 years.

And we have to “be careful” with Rush Limbaugh??

I can play Rush Limbaugh…but can I play Jeff Christie??

Like most of us, Rush Limbaugh did not come to success right away. As we all know only child stars and NBA draft picks become rich and famous overnight.

Rush did some stints as a Top 40 DJ in his early radio career…most notably as a morning personality called Jeff Christie. Here’s a link to Rush in those days.

Regardless of how you feel about Rush, it’s pretty fascinating to see such a strong personality in development. You can see glimpses of the later Rush in the prank call to the power company…and you get some small hints of Rush’s famous ego. But you have to admit, he’s pretty much perfected the “HEY..I’M YOUR MORNING DJ AND HERE’S A SONG” bit. Who knows…if things had gone differently Rush may have been the new Casey Kasem.

I started in radio as well, doing morning news at WWKI in Kokomo, Indiana. Hopefully, I can tap into some of that old radio magic as I begin to shape myself into Rush.

Being Rush Limbaugh

Okay...so I'm about to become Rush Limbaugh. It's a daunting task to say the least. Needless to say, I have not portrayed a character with this much of a loyal following since I had the lead in "Manson: The Musical". When I first got the part, I was excited. You know, a little singing, a little dancing, a few laughs. Then I read Chris Jones' blog about the show. Or, to be more specific, I read the responses to the blog. The show hasn't opened yet, heck I haven't even seen the whole script, and already the debate over the appropriateness of it is raging.

Here are a couple of examples:

"This is so lame...conservatives should see it, yell out at appropriate moments and then get hauled out...but don't expect to see your arse on the 10 o'clock news. It's not gonna happen. This is Chicago, Obama's city."
"The leftist propaganda machine goes into motion to defame supporters of the constitution and self government. You can't tell me these guys aren't socialists and panty wastes. Don't like Rush or his commentary? Debate him in an open forum. Make your point using logic and rational thought. Of course that can't happen because of the real intention of their action. This is cowardice plain and simple because they can't debate talking points on their merit."

And here I thought I was just an actor. Now I'm a cog in the "Leftist Propaganda Machine". Well, the machine kicks into gear soon…and this cog can't wait.
